Smarter Water Choices
Like many Americans, we were consuming A LOT of bottles of water each week. While it’s just two of us in our household, we are active and drink a lot of water. Week after week we were purchasing cases of water at the supermarket and lugging them home. We were also noticing the huge amount of waste from the number of empty plastic bottles that were heading out to the recycling center. While we trust that they will get where they need to go in the world of recycling, we decided to make a change in how we handle bottled water at home and do our part to minimize the waste from plastic water bottles.
In addition to the plastic waste, we wanted a solution that would provide clean water. We have well water at our home, and the taste is less than desirable. While we do have a refrigerator that has a built in charcoal filter, a charcoal filter does not filter out heavy metals. We wanted to find somthing that produced the cleanest, best tasting water out there.
I did plenty of research for our household and came up with the best solution for us based on our needs, quality and pricing. We purchased the ZeroWater glass dispenser a month ago and just love it. This solution is working out perfectly.
The dispenser holds 40 Cups = 2.5 gallons.
We use a 64 oz pitcher to easily add water to the dispenser regularly. Usually 3-4 times a day.
You can tell when the filter needs replacing because the water begins to have a “lemon” or acidic taste to it.
The filter needs replacement every two weeks – so we purchased the 4 pack for $40.
To go portable we also purchased glass water bottles: Epica 18-Oz. Glass Beverage Bottles, Set of 6 for $19.95 with silicone covers. Now we have all the conveniences of bottled water without all the waste.
We put it on a stand so that we can easily refill our bottles.
Oh, and we purchased a stainless steel spigot for $11.99, which is much better quality than the plastic spigot it came with.
The Technical Stuff:
The ZeroWater glass dispenser is BPA-free filters water in 5 stages. It is NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) certified to reduce lead and other heavy metals. Zerowater removes 99.6% of total dissolved solids, 2X more than the leading brand (tested by an independent lab). The meter proves it.
Last note: the water really tastes great. 😉
